Thank you, madam - you have quite an impressively detailed background, I must say. If you find yourself in the environs of New Babbage, please do stop by and say hello!

My Story
Gigi Gartenberg, Born April 4th 1872 in Cornwall, England.(24yrs 1896 now…also an election year…) All she knows about her father is he was a piano player from Tours, France whom made it big in Paris and traveled the world. Her mother was a whore who died from opium use age and dementia in the streets of London. Gigi was only 13 and had no other known family.

Her mothers madam took custody of her in 1885 and as times got harder Madame sold Gigi into the world market sex trade. She traveled in seclusion across Europe along the way seeing art and the different cultures she thrived on educating herself. Along the way she met an older man by the name of Charels Lutwidge Dodgson who was not only a photographer but a story teller. He was traveling with two younger girls and befriended Gigi as well. After traveling threw the Mediterranean and Constantinople then down to Egypt and India she was smuggled into the orient for 2 years.

At age 15 (1887) Gigi was sold to a wealthy old Bostonian by the name of John Parish. He was visiting the Orient on “business” for his shipping company in the Americas. After hearing her story one night during a “liaison” he took pity upon the young girl and decided to bring her back to his home.

Upon returning to his home (1889) she found she was not welcome by his wife or daughter or local society. She was snubbed at every turn. This killed Gigi only wanting to accepted. During this period she learned more about her inner talents and spent many a night playing instruments and painting. And there were no suitors and defiantly no proper ones. So there were many lonely nights.

The old man decided to set her up in a new town a bit south where he would carry on his “liaisons“ with her. He made sure she was well taken care of and even required her to be come educated. He had fallen in love with her. But she was young and didn’t know what love was. While he was out of town the young new stranger caused an uproar once more.

A brawny man by the name of Hilliard Jackson would frequently came by. He was a bit intimidating and scared Gigi. Roomers started up once more. Gigi was attacked by the man scared for her life and knowing no one would believe her she became a nomad once more. She withdrew any and all money she had and left New England. She traveled south to Maryland and met Father Oscar O’Leary along the way. He became a good friend and confidant in her travels. She soon became ill. (1892) Her now good friend made sure she was well taken care of.

Come to find out she was pregnant and had miscarried leaving her barren, which all in all is best in the long run she thought to herself. She wrote to Mr. Parish explaining what happened and why she left so abruptly. Father Oscar invited her to find religion but instead she only found she felt she had no soul. She then left Oscar to find Richmond, Virginia. She was able to find temp work to help support her self.

After receiving her letter Mr. Parish went in search of Gigi. And threw Father O’Leary was able to find her. He begged her to come back to New England His wife had left him and his daughter had married. Still Gigi couldn’t bear to return as much as she loved her trips to the cape. He expressed his love for her and she explained to him she was dead inside and was along time ago. He gave her a kiss and left also giving her some money to help her out to give her a new start. She a day later she received news Mr. Parish had died. She became deeply depressed a few days later she found out Mr. Parish had named her in his will. He left her over half of his estate.

This only depressed her even more and found herself in an opium den. In Churchhill near the mines. (1885) She once more felt her only choice was to run away form her problems. She purchased a horse and decided she would leave the east coast for good. She hired a guide to take her out west. McCloud was a strapping Scotts man but had a bad gambling habit that caused her to be alone once more in New Orleans.

She was lucky to meet a Canadian down on the Mississippi while dancing on a showboat and doing burlesque, He too was heading west as well. His name was Mr. Luik. And has been traveling with her since.

Rehabilitation and Life...

I have gone threw a lot as of late. Horse running away. The robbery by the man in black. The fainting spell & the train incident. Mr. Luik disappearing all the time. And being confined in a wheel chair.

I'm sure not only due to a gun being pulled on me, but near exhaustion and a too tight corset caused me to faint. I thought by going westward I was getting away from my problems including the ones back east. But I notice things follow me. Almost like an inescapable force.

I find Mr. Luik is… Continue
